Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters

Barry Brickey • Oct 5, 2018 at 6:30 PM

As dusk turns to dark, the Kingsport Fire Department Station 2 has been lit up red for the 103 fallen firefighters to be honored at National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Oct. 7. Landmarks across the county will glow in respect to the fallen and their families.

In 2018, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters will also include fire department tributes. Fire service organizations nationwide are invited to light their firehouse or facilities in red to honor America’s fallen bravest.

During the 37th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the U.S. Fire Service will pay tribute to the lives of 80 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2017 and 23 firefighters who died in previous years.

Every October, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. Last year, as part of this tribute, the Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

The Kingsport Fire Department thanked Christmas Decor by Luminescence, LLC for their hard work in lighting up Station 2 for this great tribute to fallen firefighters

Kingsport Fire Department Station 2 is located at 1804 Crescent Drive, Kingsport near the corner of Ft Henry Drive and Center Street.
